Opening a Small Business

vs. Opening an Online Business

Is there really a difference?

I can honestly tell you that the procedure of opening a small business in the brick and mortar world is different than opening a business on the World Wide Web.

Business Plan Pro

Before my adventure on the internet, I worked in finance. In order to get a business loan from a lender, a formal business plan , including a detailed marketing plan and projections, is necessary.

I also went to college and earned a degree in Business Administration. The importance of business and marketing plans was preached there too.

Once I started trying to market on the internet, I was definitely surprised by my complete failure. I had done everything right, according to my business textbooks and my prior experience, and I wasn’t making a penny.

What was the problem?

I was doing the wrong kind of research for my business plan! Market research is vital in traditional business, but keyword research makes the world go around on the internet.

The term “know your target market” just takes on a new meaning on the web. If you open a small business on the internet without doing keyword research, you will fail – guaranteed.

Is guessing keywords appropriate?

This is probably the hugest mistake that causes websites to fail. I was told about using keywords to attract website traffic early in my experience on the internet, so I tried to guess what words people would use when searching for my services and I put those words in the meta tags and in my content. It didn’t do any good at all.

If you don’t know specifically how to do keyword research, you can learn more about it by reading the following articles:

Please, don’t waste your time or your money trying to make it big on internet without taking the advice from professionals.

You definitely can learn from my mistakes.
